Hoover Dam is definitely worth seeing and it doesn’t have to take a whole day if you rent a car. If you’re not sure when or if you’ll be able to return to the area, I’d say see it. If you think you might be able to come back for another visit, then you might prefer to spend more time on the Strip for your first visit.
